Tips for using the patient portal effectively
- When requesting an appointment through the patient portal, expect at least 24 hours before you get a call back confirming the appointment. The patient portal is most effective for scheduling appointments for physicals and other non-acute care. (Example: Child comes home from school and announces he wants to play sports next semester. Use the patient portal that night to request a sports physical in the next couple of weeks. You don’t have to remember to call the doctor’s office during the day to schedule the appointment!
- When requesting a prescription refill through the patient portal, make the request a couple days (48-72 hours) before your prescription runs out. That gives the staff time to respond to the request and order the refill. But, if the refill cannot be made without an appointment, there is time to schedule one as well. Be sure to include your preferred pharmacy in your request. While we have that information on file, it never hurts to be thorough!
- If you send us a portal request for a prescription refill or to schedule an appointment and HAVE NOT HEARD FROM US WITHIN 24 HOURS, PLEASE CALL YOUR DOCTOR’S OFFICE DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS TO CONFIRM. The process is not complete until your refill or appointment has been confirmed to you by staff via the portal or by phone.
